Lesson Plans for Week of August 27-31
Monday, Aug 27:
Learning Target:
  • demonstrate students' current knowledge of the basic parts of speech: noun, adjective, verb, pronoun, adverb, preposition
  • determine current knowledge of Unit 1 Part 1 vocabulary words.
  • Introduce Context Clue strategy: Look for the Location or Setting.
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • Collect HW: signed syllabus and "Me, Myself & I" handout.
  • Return Summer reading tests-- discuss correct answers and "+1 Dojo" written on some students' returned tests.
    • Show video about ClassDojo on wiki page. Briefly discuss incentives.
  • Part of Speech Review Quiz-- discuss/review and correct answers.
  • Take Word Wisdom U1P1 Pre-test. (Distribute WW books while students are working)
HW:
  • Take home "Home Connections"- study words from Unit 1 (particularly Part 1 this week) and study their parts of speech.
  • WW pg 10-11 due Wednesday
  • Supply check tomorrow.

Tuesday, Aug 28:
Learning Target:
  • Use context clues and prior knowledge to establish meaning of new words
  • Assess current knowledge of literary terms such as characterization, irony, foreshadow, flashback
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • Take out U1P1 pre-test--update/change answers as desired while listening to the words used in context (page 6 in W.W book). Correct and discuss answers.
  • Introduce Context Clue Strategy: Look for the Location or Setting. Demonstrate use of 5-step process using page 7 in WW
  • "Unlock the Meanings" by completing page 8 together, 9 independently.
    • Supply check while students are working
  • Begin 7th grade Literary Term Review Quiz--correct, if time.
HW:
  • WW pages 10-11 due tomorrow.
  • Prepare for Post test over U1P1 words on Friday
  • If you still have a copy of your summer reading "Choice" book, bring it to class tomorrow and Thursday. (Don't worry if you don't have it!!)

Wednesday, Aug 29:
Learning Target:
  • Assess current knowledge of literary terms such as characterization, irony, foreshadow, flashback
  • Respond to literal & critical-thinking conflicts between characters in an independently-read literary text (The Outsiders).
  • Identify and discuss specific literary elements related to a common text.
  • Collaborate with peers, engage in discussion and words a common goal.
Class Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • Check HW: completion of WW pgs 10-11. Discuss/correct answers.
  • Discuss correct answers to yesterday's Literary Term Review Quiz.
  • Distribute Literary Term notes (handout)
  • Arrange students into groups to discuss/respond to questions on specific literary terms in The Outsiders.
    • Use ClassDojo
HW:
  • No HW due tomorrow.
  • Prepare for Friday's U1P1 Post test

Thursday, Aug 30:
Learning Target:
  • Respond to literal & critical-thinking conflicts between characters in an independently-read literary text (summer reading "choice" book)
  • Identify and discuss specific literary elements related to a common text.
  • Collaborate with peers, engage in discussion and words a common goal.
Class Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • Arrange students into groups based on which summer reading "choice" book they read.
  • Groups will discuss/complete "Summer Reading Choice Book Literary Terms Scavenger Hunt Discussion Questions"
    • ClassDojo
  • Complete backside of handout from Monday: Part of Speech Quiz as extra practice. Discuss answers, if time.
HW:
  • Prepare for tomorrow's U1P1 Post test
  • Review parts of speech as needed.

Friday, Aug 31:
Learning Target:
  • demonstrate/assess students' knowledge of U1P1 vocabulary words and context clue strategy
  • Orientate to the Media Center
Class Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • Take U1P1 Post test
  • Media Center orientation & tour
  • Complete and submit Media Center Orientation Exit slip before leaving class.
HW:
  • Continue to review parts of speech and literary terms.
  • Enjoy the long weekend. :)
